In the beginning of my career with art I started doing sign painting, today the signs are mostly done by computer designs. I sometimes see a pickup with the lettering to advertise their ability to offer hand painted signs but we are very rare today. When you pass vehicles, buildings, and billboards today each is made from computer designs using vinyl lettering. Us artist who have done sign painting with squirrel hair brushes and 1 Shot Sign paints are pioneers and history together. My very first attempt at sign painting was done on a store glass window. After that the business grew from glass to buildings and to billboards. This was a billboard I painted twenty-five years ago. The only thing I had to use was a long ladder and oil paint. Using the old rollers and hand brushes with a lot of patience is what made this kind of work possible.

Texas Instruments illustration for Ft. Knox, Kentucky
Pencil drawing is what my life as an artist began with. I still have drawings that was done when I was a child in elementary school and when I see them I am reminded of the No. 2 pencil, what we were required to have and a perfect drawing tool during class. Twelve years of drawing during the studies bring back memories, along with many ‘put it away’ orders from the teachers through all the grades. Back in the days when we covered our school books with brown paper bags, I used it as a drawing pad and enjoyed art as long as I wasn’t able to be seen. It’s fun to remember back to those years. Fast forwarding, when I was entering a career as an illustrator I began quickly to learn the technical pencils that went from hard lead to soft lead pencils used to form all the shades needed for illustrations. My first job was being hired as an assistant to a draftsman and that was my introduction to the pencils. Throughout life I still use it for jobs and enjoyment as an artist and illustrator, from fine art to simple art. |
Art has been the one thing that I have enjoyed either for businesses, individuals, or just for the joy of expressing my heart and talent on canvas. One of my greatest opportunities has been working with children both in schools and individually. It is sharing a part of myself that every artist expresses into his art itself.
